Barefoot Manta Island resort, Fiji
We stayed in a beachfront Bure at this resort as part of our island hopping trip with Awesome Adventures Fiji. It’s a close call but I think it was my favourite island of the four we visited during the trip! The resort is in the middle of a small spit of land at the north of the island so is surrounded by beach. You’ve got Sunset Beach (main pic) on one side, Sunrise Beach on the other, and then turn towards north and there’s Manta Beach. We didn’t watch the sunrise as we had a bit of stormy weather in the mornings, but the sunset was pretty perfect! Especially with a piña colada in hand 🙂
Our Bure was half wooden hut and half tent with an outdoor wet room out the back as a bathroom. We had our own hammock and a little footpath that lead us to Sunset Beach in about four steps. It was beyond gorgeous!
The dive shop at the resort are really into their marine conservation and you can get involved in this for a day, at a cost. But for free you can see the stunning coral reef off Sunrise Beach. The reef at Blue Lagoon was amazing, but here it’s even better, the coral structures are huge and there’s so much life! We spent hours out there snorkelling around the reef – and we also had a little look at the underwater clam farm there that’s part of the marine conservation work!
But the main draw for this resort, as its name suggests, is the fact that manta rays feed here at high tide from May to October. Snorkelling with them was a beautiful experience – read my post on it here!
