Barefoot Kuata Island resort, Fiji
We only stayed for one night here as part of our island hopping trip with Awesome Adventures Fiji. But it was some of the best 24 hours of the trip! This was mainly because of the diving we did here with bull sharks, which was life changing it was so good! To read about that experience follow the link 🙂
Kuata’s resort is gorgeous. Its beautiful long beach is set against a backdrop of dramatic cliff formations and hills. Our tent Bure – half tent, half wooden hut – was a few steps from the beach and the sun rose up straight through our window. Pure heaven! This resort has a pool as well which is always a bonus, although I do prefer swimming in the sea. You get the usual ‘Bula’ song when you arrive at Kuata, and a ‘warrior’ also stands on one of the big rocks as people leave and arrive as part of an old tradition
There are loads of activities on offer and the staff try to get you involved as much as possible. You can take a trip to a local village, see the nearby caves, dive with bull sharks, snorkel with reef sharks, weave baskets – the list goes on. Some of these are free, some aren’t, it’s a pretty decent mix!
You can also do your own walks around the island to check out the caves, another beach, or the island’s summit. We did the summit walk, which only took about half an hour to get to the top. It’s a pretty steep climb but the 360 degree views at the top are incredible. Photographs just can’t capture how beautiful this area is and how clear the water is – you can see the coral fringing the island even from that height.
