A trip to the Blue Mountains

I was extremely excited to visit the Blue Mountains, not just because of their infamous beauty, but also because we were taking a friend from the UK who was visiting for a few days – yay! Despite knowing for months that Tom was coming, we made plans last minute, so we just booked onto a tour for ease. But I would probably recommend either hiring a car or taking the train and staying there for a few days and just doing it yourself.

We did the Sight Seeing Tours Australia trip for $89 which involved a small bus picking us up and taking us up to a few locations. The first stop was this massive flat rock that overlooked the valleys of the mountains. The view was just breathtaking and it was pretty cool being on a ledge with no railings that hung over a sheer drop! I thought so anyway. Tom and George were a bit more nervous haha

Next up was a walk through the mountains to see the Katoomba Falls. This was gorgeous although this is where having your own transport and more time would be handy as I would’ve liked to have hiked down to the bottom to see more of them. It was still lush though!

We then headed to the small town Katoomba which was really cute and reminded me a bit of Port Douglas. We had lunch there (not included in tour price) before heading on to Scenic World to go on their “rides” (also not included).

Scenic World was an extra $30 each to ride on the two cable cars and the world’s steepest railway, which was great! The views from all three of the rides with panoramic mountain views, the Wentworth Falls and the Three Sisters was just amazing! Even if the boys were freaking out about the heights haha

Our guide Dave (who was great!) then took us to see an aboriginal rock carving to round off the day with a bit of culture and then we headed back. The journey back was actually a real treat as for the second half of the way we hopped on a ferry back to Circular Quay, which gave us fantastic views of the harbour, Opera House and Harbour Bridge! 🙂

We had a really great day and the mountains are just beautiful! But this is an area where it’s nice to not have to stick to someone else’s schedule. You could also definitely do it cheaper by splitting car hire costs across a group.
