10 cheap and tasty eats in Kuta, Bali

You’ll struggle to spend a lot of money on food in Kuta. It’s generally all pretty cheap compared to home! But if, like me, you’re on a long trip you’ll want to stretch those pennies as far as possible. While still having a tasty meal, of course!

There’s so much choice in Kuta – you only need to walk a few steps to find a restaurant – so you can afford to have a look at the menu outside and move on to the next if it isn’t what you want.

As a general rule if you stick to Indonesian food you’ll spend less, but (as delicious as it is) there are only so many noodles you can stomach haha

Here’s 10 suggestions for a good feed in Kuta on a budget, both Indo and more western options:

– Warung Indonesia
You’ll find a lot of locals and backpackers here, which is a good sign! It’s good Indo food and cheap with the cheapest meals at 18k (£1). For 20k I had satay chicken, veg and a mountain of curried rice (main pic), which was more than I could eat! Most of the meals on the menu are under 30k and it’s all tasty stuff. They also do a buffet but I tend to avoid these as I’m just not too sure how long that chicken has been sat there ha

Location: Head down Popies Lane 2 from Legian and take the first left.

-Fajar restaurant
This is next door to Warung Indonesia and is just as cheap and just as yummy! I had two big pork, rice noodle and veg spring rolls for 18k, which were absolutely delicious. I also had a side of rice for 5k but couldn’t eat it all so wasn’t needed really!

The nibbling nomad Warung Smile Baby Kuta Bali pancakes noodles
Tasty Smile Baby pancakes!

– Warung Smile baby

Meals here are super cheap at around 15-25k. It’s generally Indo food but I also had a really tasty chicken Quesadilla and chips for 25k! Their breakfast (pancakes or eggs and toast) is also super cheap and tasty! The local lager Bintang* is also cheap here.

Location: Head past Warung Indonesia and take the next right.

*if there’s two of you, it works out cheaper to share a large Bintang that keep buying smalls each 🙂

– beachside restaurants
Surprisingly, there are pretty cheap and tasty places to eat right on Kuta beach! I didn’t jot down their names, but if you head to the turtle sanctuary end of the beach and go to the very last two restaurants you’ll find really tasty food for cheap. I had a big bowl (couldn’t finish it) of rice with satay chicken sticks, nuts and coconut, and a chicken leg for 35k (£2). And you get a sea view thrown in for free!

– Bamboo Corner
This restaurant wasn’t my absolutely favourite, the others above had tastier food, but it was cheap, about 25/30k a meal. They also had Chinese options as well as a few western type meals if you fancy something slightly different!

Location: Popies Lane 1, at the end close to Legian.

– Pekah 6
If you fancy a pizza, this place does great pizzas for 40-50k. It’s slightly more expensive than the cheap Indonesian places but if you fancy a change £3 isn’t a bad price to pay for a large pizza! They do all the usuals – George had Hawaiian and I had a veggie with spinach, aubergine and cheese.

Location: Turn into Jl Benesari off of Legian and walk in the direction of the beach. Take the first left and it’s on the left a minute or so down that road – just down the road from the massive Four Points hotel.

– iMax
This bar is dead cheap for drinks at about 10k for a spirit mixer and between 7-9pm it’s half price pizzas ranging from 25-50k, and they’re pretty good! They also do a decent burger for 45k.

Location: This is a bit further up the road from Pekah 6.

– Si Doi
This place does all day breakfast, which is really handy if you’ve had a heavy one and wake up late! Its menu generally isn’t that cheap, but you can get two eggs (cooked to your liking), bacon and toast for 35k, which isn’t bad and it’s a decent plate full. They also do some good lunch options – a ham and cheese panini with a big portion of chips is also 35k.

Location: Turn off Legian down Benesari towards the beach and it’s on your left after about 200m.

The nibbling nomad Warung Souvlaki Kuta Bali restaurant

– Warung Souvlaki
This place is a little taste of Greece in the middle of Bali! I love Greece so I absolutely loved sitting in a blue and white restaurant listening to Greek music! The fried courgettes, tzatsiki and moussaka were all perfect. There wasn’t a huge amount of traditional Greek meals on the menu but there were a few and it’s great if you fancy a change. Again slightly more than Indonesian food but a meal is around 45k so not bad for less than £3!

Location: It’s just a bit further down the road from Warung Indonesia.

– Sky Garden
The Sky Garden is about half way down Legian and, spread across several floors and is probably the biggest club in Kuta. It’s a great option if you want a big night and a big feed! Read my post on the place here.
