Mega sand dunes and blue waters – Arcachon, France

If you’re visiting the Bordeaux/Charantes/Dordogne area of France and fancy seeing the sea – Arcachon is the place to do it.

the nibbling nomad Arcachon France sand dunesThere’s a beautiful beach with fine golden sands and clear blue sea. But what makes it stand out are the miles and miles of MASSIVE sand danes that line the coast here. It’s really spectacular! You can park up and climb (a pretty rickety) stairway up to the top of the dunes and then you could spend hours wandering across the dunes.

The sand is super fine so it’s quite hard work walking across it in flip flops, so I’d suggest wearing some decent shoes! You can walk/roll all the way down the dunes to get to the sea at the bottom, but we didn’t after seeing a child actually crying from the effort of walking back up haha

It’s really gorgeous though and there are some lovely restaurants and cafes along the main beach too if you’re making a day of it.
