Castle dining in the Charentes, France

Now this really is a luxury experience! The restaurant in the castle (Le Relais du Chateau) that overlooks the town of Chalais in the Charentes region is not going to suit you if you’re on a tight budget. We’ve treated my nan to a meal here for her birthday and it’s super expensive, but it is pretty wonderful.

You eat your dinner in one of the chambers in the castle so it’s pretty special, and the food is always of the highest standard from the flavours to the presentation. George and I shared starters of scallops and a prawn & avocado dish, then I had lamb cutlets (main pic) and profiterole & strawberry skewers and literally couldn’t fault any of it!

And there’s also the added bonus of being able to wander around the castle courtyard after/before your meal – it’s a pretty impressive place! It’s also a hotel so you can stay there, but I can’t imagine this comes even slightly cheap!
