Le Mani restaurant, Rome
The food at this restaurant is just amazing, one of the nicest meals I’ve ever had! It’s in Trastevere which is a great area for the evenings (read my post on Trastevere) and is generally quite cheap for food and drinks. But if you’re on a budget Le Mani is quite pricey, but you do very much get what you pay for, it’s delicious! We spent about €90 for the two of us but we did have three courses and plenty of prosecco and beer, so you could do it cheaper if you wanted.
It’s popular with the locals, so you know it’s gonna be good, but this also means it’s busy so you need to book a table. However, you’ll need to get someone Italian to call up and book for you otherwise they won’t give you a table… which is weird because when you get there, they couldn’t be more welcoming and friendly! So don’t let that put you off.
They do loads of amazing secondi (small pasta) dishes, which are big enough to share as a starter. We shared a portion of spinach ravioli and it was just melt in the mouth delicious. I then had the fillet steak Rossini (it was my birthday, I deserved a treat okay!) which is sauce made from red wine and pate, with a big crouton and truffles. It was honestly one of the best steaks I’ve ever had! (main pic)
Just another word of advice on booking a table – downstairs is the smoking area (because apparently the smoking ban doesn’t apply underground haha!) but they suspend this at busy times and it didn’t smell, so just something to bear in mind.
